The magazine, initially known as North South Trader, was founded in 1973 by William S. Mussenden and since then has employed scores of accomplished  writers, typists, typesetters, photographers, graphic artists, editors, and salespeople.  In addition to the regular staff, the magazine has also employed numerous people in a part-time or internship capacity.

Steve Sylvia, publisher of what is now known as North South Trader's Civil War --- or NSTCW for short --- is the only remaining member of the original staff.  Nancy Dearing Rossbacher, the magazine's managing editor and designer, has been with the magazine since the mid-1980s.  Mike Roberts handles circulation; Jack Melton, Jr., is our principal photographer; and Carson Jenkins, Jr., masterminds our computer and Internet operations.
